Planning is more than just scheduling tasks—it’s a system for clarity, focus, and self-improvement! In fact, for many, it becomes a way to navigate both work and personal life with ease.
In this week's feature, we talked to planner enthusiast Andrea who has been refining her system since 2016. We hope you pick up something useful as you read on and learn how she got started and discover what keeps her inspired!
What inspired you to get into journaling and stationery?
It was years ago that I discovered Bullet Journaling. I had to do a test for work and for preparations I got into planning. It really helped me to get through these hard months of learning and working side by side.
Over the years, I had many notebooks and planners and then I made my way into planning and journaling, and I started my Instagram account in September 2016. Since then I found a lot out of myself because of journaling and planning. I’m very much a head person so planning gives me relief through busy days and journaling helps me to sort out my thoughts.
What did your first setup look like?
My very first setup was a simple hardcover A6 notebook from Leuchtturm1917. It was simple but very helpful for me. Since then I tried out many things like rinplanners, which, for me as a lefty, is a little bit hard to do. So I really like bookbound notebooks and planners and so the Lochby covers are so perfect for my needs. I can keep all my index tabs and notebooks in one place and have it always with me.
Do you have a day job, and if so, what is it?
I’m working in an office, and I have to do many projects like marketing stuff, events and sort of city newspaper, so planning and notetaking is very important to me. And if the notebooks and covers look good it’s more fun to do my job. I really love using the Lochby covers with my notebooks and I take them everywhere with me so I can’t be that cautious with my stuff.
More than getting things done, planning is also about creating a structured way to manage life’s complexities. For Andrea who calls herself a "head" person, this offers a sense of control and helps break down any overwhelming tasks into manageable steps.
Of course, finding the right system is a process of trial and error but a well-structured planning system is a powerful tool and makes all the difference in life. When discovering a setup, it's great to go for one that both enhances productivity and feels natural.

Was there a turning point that made you realize this was something you wanted to "pursue" in life?
I found the planning and journaling community on Instagram and one day I just gave it a shot. In 2016, the planning community was so fresh and so fun, I really enjoyed posting and getting to know new people online all over the world. Still so happy that I did that step.
How has your journey with journaling evolved over time?
It helped me to grow and evolve over the years, and to sort out my feelings, my anger, my anxiety and also my successes. Because no one cares as much for you as yourself so you have to take care of yourself as much as you can.
What has been the most rewarding part of sharing your journey on social media?
The most rewarding thing is to meet new people from all over the world online, it makes me really happy to help others with their planning and journaling journey. I think in 9 years I could collect a lot out of it.
What's a fun fact about you that your followers might not know?
I’m such a head person, I’m not very spontaneous. It takes me a lot to do something I’ve not planned out, but sometimes life hits you and you are surprised what you are capable of.
Sometimes, taking a simple step—like sharing your system online—can lead to unexpected opportunities and connections that enrich your planning journey.
But let's not forget something equally important that Andrea brings up here: she got into planning to use it as a tool for personal reflection and self-care, allowing space to process emotions and celebrate progress.
Sharing your planning methods with a community can inspire and motivate others but don't forget that first and foremost, you're doing this for yourself!

How do you balance journaling and posting about them on social media with other aspects of your life?
Sometimes it’s hard when I have multiple projects at work, but this is my fun space and I really enjoy it so I’m doing it to unwind and have fun. It’s a hobby and that is how I see it, so there’s no pressure posting if I’m not in the mood. I think that’s ok because you have to stay real and everyday posting with notebooks you normally not would use is not what I want. I do the same planning style with my daily mind maps and timeline on two pages a day now for about a year. My planners I need for future planning.
What is your favorite technique for staying consistent so you can keep up with your journaling habit?
I just take my notebook everywhere I go and write down everything that comes on my mind.
It’s essential to view planning as a supportive tool rather than an obligation. Keeping it enjoyable and flexible ensures it remains a long-term habit so at your own pace!
How did you discover Lochby?
I saw it on Instagram and instantly fell in love with the fun raw stuff. I’m not that girly so it’s perfect for me and it’s useful and not fancy. There are too many fancy things out there which are not useful.
How does Lochby help you with your creative or productive pursuits?
It’s easy and fun to use it and also it’s super flexible, every planner and notebook fits in. I use it for my daily planning and journaling with my A5 Slim notebook. The pocket version I’m using for my Passport Quotes Commonplace book. It’s for sayings, wisdoms and quotes I’m hearing in movies, reading in books or anywhere I hear them.
Practicality matters when it comes to planning tools! We're glad Andrea finds our gear durable and functional, but most of all, that it has played a role in helping her maintain consistency and creativity.

Are there any common mistakes beginners should avoid when getting started on planning?
Don’t be afraid, there are no mistakes. It’s just your (own) way to do it and it’s important not to put pressure on yourself to do things perfectly. There’s no perfect way to do anything.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires your creative process?
"The key to a happy life is to accept that you are never actually in control." I heard that from Masrana in Jurassic World and I liked it because I always want to be in control of things. :)
Planning is a lifelong practice that evolves with your needs and lifestyle. Whether you’re just starting or refining your system, the key is to keep it personal and functional. Find what works best for you but don't forget to enjoy the process.
